Interview with John David Martin of Artica
Sometimes it doesn’t take a lot of words to get the message across, sometimes our actions, or in this case music are louder than words! This is a short but concise look into Artica as a band, with a clear message “We are who we and we are and we’re doing what we love – playing great music!!” Enjoy this interview and take the opportunity to check out the samples of “As It Should Be” in the Jukebox to get to know the band a little bit better!!

Interview with Chris Catena
The music is the driving force behind this site and behind the music is the artist that creates it. What I enjoy most about the interviews is the insight into the artist and seeing just what makes them tick and when it comes to Chris Catena there is a lot involved in this artist! Chris is definitely an artist through and through and if I had asked him the question - Does life imitate art or art imitate life? - I think Chris’ answer would be they are one and the same!
In the answers Chris gave to these questions I think it is obvious that art and music are Chris Catena’s life and if you have not given a listen to Chris’s music I would suggest a visit to www.chriscatena.com as there are a lot of different projects and sounds to experience. I hope you enjoy this interview and getting to know one of today’s more artistic musicians.

Today’s interview is with Lars Abrahamsson of Broke [N] Blue whose new release is called “The Waiting”. This interview give a good perspective of what makes the band what it is – Great! Lars and his band mates are positive, creative and willing to stretch beyond the norm to achieve a sound all their own and it shows in the songs on “The Waiting” and in his answers. I believe this album and this band have a great future and will help bring back the focus of Melodic music and my only hope is that we won’t be “Waiting” too long for their next release! Please take a moment to stop by http://www.broke-n-blue.com/BNBFrames.htm to show your support!

Interview with James Byrd
James has been playing guitar for decades and has made a name for himself as a highly respectable and creative player & Quite impressive! More impressive still he has been developing "the perfect guitar" with his guitar company, http://www.byrdguitars.com! Interview with Rolf-Erik Nyland of Winterstrain
While the name Winterstrain may at first evoke a feeling of cold and struggle those feelings will be fleeting as soon as you start to listen to the sounds from the band Winterstrain. Interview with Brian LaBlanc
I had a chance to speak with Brian LaBlanc of Blanc Faces recently and enjoyed hearing about how these two brothers have had music in their lives for as long as they can remember. They have been involved in a lot of projects over the years and are no strangers to the music world. I was very impressed by the maturity but more importantly the positive outlook Brian has even though they have had some rough breaks over the years. I have thought about his words and his love for the music since the interview and it is clear that Brian and his brother have kept their focus on the creation of some fabulous music and have coupled that with making it fun! The release of “Blanc Faces” finally gives us all a chance to see what these two are capable of and the result is 12 tracks of pure listening pleasure and enjoyment! Enjoy the interview!

Interview with Tor Talle of Northern Light
When I think of The Northern Lights I picture the sky filled with a shimmering light and Tor Talle’s special dream project Northern Light is appropriately named as it’s filled with some of the best and most brilliant vocalists in the melodic community. Their debut album had a rocky start but has received a lot of attention and as its name suggests “Sound” is the band’s main focus. The band writes songs that they themselves would want to hear on the radio and during the 10 years their sound has matured and they have perfected their craft. FIREFEST INTERVIEWS
May 17, 2005
Interview with Stuart Smith & Kelly Hansen
It was with much excitement and anticipation that I had the opportunity to talk to both Stuart Smith and Kelly Hansen about Black Star Records and the band Heaven & Earth! I had been reading so many great things about Black Star and the album had been getting lots of airplay in my office so I was thrilled to talk to these two key players. It was an extremely informative interview in that I heard 1st hand from two respected musicians what their goal was for creating Black Star Records but foremost and most importantly what we the listening public can do to help change what is being played on the radio.
I hope you enjoy this interview and take Stuart's and Kelly's words to heart. If you aren't hearing the music you want on the radio, it is up to you to try and change that.
Make your voice count and call your local radio stations & Let's make the music ours again!

Interview with Ricky Phillips
I had the pleasure to speak with Ricky Phillips at length one Saturday morning while he enjoyed a cup of coffee and the start of a beautiful California day. During the time that we talked I asked Ricky about being a member of Styx, what makes him tick; along with some of the other projects he’s been working on. One of the highlights of the conversation was Ricky’s feelings, insights and excitement into the making of the newest release from Styx “Big Bang Theory”.Enjoy!

Interview with Harry James of THUNDER
I have always loved a good thunder and lightning storm because they are such a vivid display of the powers in nature, maybe Mother Nature’s rock and roll concert. So when I started listening to Thunder’s new album I was able to feel the energy of the band coming through in every flashing riff and thundering beat …These guys could do a duet with Mother Nature! As I learned more about the band one of the things that struck me the most was how much they love to perform live … They are true musicians and showmen! I have been listening to “The Magnificent Seventh” quite a bit and would suggest checking out the Juke Box if you haven’t heard it … A personal favorite of mine is “I Love You More Than Rock-n’Roll”!
April 12, 2005
Interview with Rob Moratti
Each artist I have interviewed has shown me something new and deeply personal about what it takes to find your niche, develop your own sound and then jump the hoops to get the music out to the listeners. Rob Moratti is an artist that like many others has always had music as one of the key points in his life and has worked very hard and stayed focus on his goal … or would you say his Final Frontier? All puns aside, Rob has been enjoying some well-deserved success from his hard work but has not let it go to his head. In Rob I find a grounded, well thought out and determined individual and while he is having fun with the success he is also taking this success and looking for what there is to learn and what to use in the future to continue to grow! I’d like to congratulate Rob and the band from Final Frontier and suggest you stop by their site, http://www.finalfrontiermusic.com/ after the interview to see what else these guys are up to!

The interviews on Strike Up The Bands have always been something I have really enjoyed working on and a lot of fun because we get to see the artists behind the music! Today we have the opportunity to get to know not just one, but all of the members of Britian’s own Dante Fox! I love to see the different personalities come to light and enjoy the banter between the band mates as they tease and joke with one another, even though it is obvious they care a great deal about each other and share one common goal … Great music and good times! I hope you enjoy this look into what makes a modern melodic rock band tick and we will keep you up to date on what’s happening with this band in the hot news section and in the bulletin board!

Interview with Tony Mills
Long before there were drum machines and multi-track mixers there were musicians, singers and poets. We still have a strong presence of musicians and singers but over the years we have all but forgotten about the poets. In fact, until I reviewed Tony Mills’ replies to this interview I had not thought of poetry for sometime! But, I think as you read his answers you will agree that poetry is alive and well and as important as ever in the music of today!Tony Mills has brought to light a very important thought; if music is the sound-track of our lives then the lyrics are our story. I hope that you all enjoy learning more about this colorful and genuine artist of today! For more information and to learn more go to http://www.tonymills.net!

Interview with Martie Peters
We all have a path we travel in life, we dream of who we want to become as children, struggle to find ourselves in adolescence and with any luck find a niche to flourish in as an adult. Martie Peters has found his niche and has believed enough in himself and his music to continue following his heart in the down times and stay grounded and realistic in the good.
The new MPG album is a huge step in Martie’s progression and the start of what I hope to be a long line of great music. I know that Martie is very excited for people to hear the new songs and to show them first hand that he is a rock and roll star, just liked he dreamed of, fought for and maintains!
The newest album simply titled “MPG” is fresh out for you to enjoy, but if you want to try it out be sure and stop by the Juke Box section here!

Interview with AJ FedZ of Snakeryder
They say you can’t always judge a book by its cover and with a band name as intriguing as Snakeryder and the lead guitarist going simply by the mysterious name AJ one has to wonder just what is in store… As the old adage suggests things turned out slightly different than I expected. I found AJ to be expressive, funny and a damn good guitar player! In addition he’s a motivated individual who has strong beliefs in his style of music and about what is right for the band. The debut album from Snakeryder has had some zigs and zags but has made its mark and has opened the door for the follow-up album. I’ve had the opportunity to hear some preliminary samples and without giving anything away just yet let me tell you … Get your tickets ready folks and get ready for the RYDE!!
January 10, 2005

Interview with Jeff Watson
In the music world of today 25 years on the scene is the stuff legends are made of! With the busy Holiday Season I was excited that I was able to catch up with the legendary Jeff Watson of Night Ranger for a quick interview and Holiday Greeting to the fans. To those of us who were there and enjoyed the music when it reached its highest point in the 80’s; Jeff is an icon and a familiar face. While time has passed since the stadiums were packed with good old rock-n-roll Jeff is still the rocker at heart and a musician through and through!
I found Jeff to be well-rounded and a multi-faceted person; up to date on the issues, and strong in his beliefs. Each interview I do strengthens my certainty that rock-n-roll stars are more than just performers, but rather they are key players in our lives, documenting the importance of art and life itself!
Be sure and watch for more to come from this “Lone Ranger” and stop by http://www.JeffWatson.com for updates on the entire Night Ranger crew and Jeff himself!!

Interview with Torben Lysholm
Torben Lysholm is the rock star we all saw ourselves being as children, happy-go-lucky, full of life and hope and …TALENTED! I truly enjoy creating these interview questions and view them as a window into the vibrant world of those writing our lives soundtrack. This interview with Torben is fun, fast moving and full of color. I always enjoy the responses that go into depth about how the artist feels about the issues and Torben certainly did not let us down there. His latest album “Sensational” is also a far cry from a let down, with masterful riffs and more hooks than a fisherman’s toolbox!
I hope you enjoy reading Torben’s thoughts and taking a look at this great guitar player’s outlook. Be sure and watch for more to come from Torben with his new band Mysterell and check out his older work with Pangea. Also with Christmas just around the corner I just wanted to say a quick and very grateful Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Interview with Howie Simon
To have a great rock and roll band you need a great guitarist, so to look at the bands a guitarists has played in seems to be a good measure of their talent. Ken Tamplin, Jeff Scott Soto, Graham Bonnet, I would say someone would have to have some pretty serious skills with the strings to keep pace with these big names! Our guest today is guitar great Howie Simon who has appeared with all of these names and has his sites set on a bright future.
Howie is a true guitar player, he had a dream as a young man and has fulfilled it, but has never stopped dreaming and he is in my mind a true icon of Rock and Roll. I hope you enjoy the interview and stop into http://www.howiesimon.com/ for news about his many projects … including his first solo CD!!

Interview with Faithfull: Sergio Sabino
The name Faithfull for a group says a lot about the band itself! As you read this interview, I think that you will agree that this bunch of guys is doing this for the love of music and as a way of expressing themselves. Faithfull strikes me as a very approachable and fun loving band and it’s nice to see a band who is having fun doing what they love. Their album “Light This City”, released by Vinny Records is a solid AOR album with each instrument played to the extreme. I would say to watch for more from this band, as they are very serious about producing high-quality, high-impact music that can sure get your feet tapping! For more info about Faithfull watch the Hot News section of the site as they are very good about keeping us updated or check out http://www.faithfull_band.com/ … Enjoy the interview!

Interview with Dario Grillo
As another Thanksgiving passes and another year prepares to make way for a new one, I have given some thought lately to how wonderful it has been to have a chance to interview so many artists of the great music of today! I found myself quietly smiling as I reviewed this interview with Dario Grillo of Platens. I saw a young artist full of hope and dedication and a belief that the music will always find a way. Dario’s new album “Between Two Horizons” is a great chance to get to know this up and coming artist. The album is not only a look inside the heart and soul of Dario but an opportunity for all of us to look inside ourselves ... our struggles and accomplishments.
So at this festive time of year I would like to wish everyone the very best of the season and hope that you enjoy this personal interview with Dario. To learn more about this promising artist and what is on the horizon for him stop by http://www.platens-opera.com and show your support!

Interview with Kevin Chalfant
It is with great pleasure and heartfelt thanks that I introduce this interview with Kevin Chalfant. The first time I heard Kevin was a few years back when I was going through a particularly tough time in my life; it was his music and emotion-filled vocals that helped me throughout the ups and downs. It was truly his songs and his rich powerful voice that gave me the strength to move forward!
In speaking with Kevin it was clear to me that he is a man and musician who gives of himself completely in his music to his fans and I am sure that there are many that he has influenced and comforted over the years. The world of Kevin Chalfant is filled with a close-knit family, God and strong beliefs in honesty and staying true to ones self.
I would like to take a moment to publicly thank Kevin for his music and for helping me to find peace in a turbulent world. With that said, please enjoy the soundclips of Kevin’s new album “Shadows Fade” in the jukebox and one of my own personal favorites “Masquerade” that accompany this intimate look at an artist who has entertained us all for years and who’s lust for life is still shinning brightly!
November 15, 2004
Interview with Ted Poley
Ted Poley is an artist that not only has stuck to his guns and created the music he loves through the good times and the bad, but is also a person who feels and believes that while life may have its ups and downs things will work out. There is the common misconception that artists, especially rock and roll artists, maintain in some sort of different world than the rest of us, but in my experience this isn’t true. They get up in the morning and deal with a world much like ours. What I think makes artists like Ted Poley great is that they give the rest of us a gift, a sound track for our lives and share their lives with us. I have truly enjoyed the experience of interviewing Ted and am excited to bring you this candid look into one of today’s true “Rock Stars”!
November 09, 2004
Interview with Jesse Damon
One of the greatest things about music is the diversity of styles and sounds; music is an expression. The diversity of the artists is another great facet of music, without the artist there would be no music and without music I believe life would be quite empty and boring! Today’s featured musician is Jesse Damon who has worked on many projects as a guitarist and songwriter. Through Jesse’s words I have seen a man that knows what he likes and who has worked hard to achieve success in a tough business. Jesse has done what many of us have only dreamed. I hope that you enjoy the interview and stop by www.JesseDamon.com to learn more about this dedicated and diverse musician. Jesse’s new album gives us a glimpse inside and shows what years of dedication taught him and a message we can all take to heart … “Nothing Else Matters”!

Interview with Mitch Malloy
When I stop to think how consuming a career in music would be I look at the
dealings with the labels, and the struggle to find a line up for the band,
studio time, the cost of production, and so on and so on. So, when I reviewed
the answers to today’s interview with Mitch Malloy I was taken back by the
simple message he delivered through out the questions “I love music” … “Music
is what I do” and it dawned on me that all the struggles of a music career are
just those steps an artists takes along the way to expressing themselves. When
I finished with this interview I felt that something foreign had become familiar
and an artist I was already familiar with became someone that I truly respect
and honored to have had the chance to find out his views and how funny he is.
Enjoy the interview and remember that anything worth doing is worth fighting
for!

Interview with Hal Marabel of ARENA
Today’s interview is with Hal from Arena, who many of us remember from Bad Habit. Interview with Paul Bonrud
To make it in the music industry today you have to be a lot of things; talented determined, perhaps a little bit lucky and above all you have to have heart. Today I would like to introduce you to Paul Bonrud a young and very promising artist that fits all of these criteria. Paul is beyond any doubt talented, his presence and style on the guitar is the stuff dreams are made of, while his writing is timeless and captures the essence of our emotions! The other three criteria can all be grouped into the last, which of course is having heart, to borrow from Dr. Suess it is safe to say that Pauls heart may be two sizes to big. He pours himself into the music with passion and determination, rather than relying on luck he relies on himself and his music and I believe that he is on the road to great success. Outside of music Paul is committed to his friends, the environment and making the world a better place. I hope you enjoy this interview and suggest checking out Pauls music in the Juke box!

Interview with Rod Chappel of Lightspeed
Many of us have had the dream of putting together a band, with heavy hitting guitar and drum songs, heart breaking ballads and the best name for a band ever! While “the best” is completely subjective the dream is universal. Rod Chappel and crew share that same dream, and through hard work and long lasting determination they have turned that dream to reality, and yes, they do have a great name … Lightspeed.
Through the process of interviewing Rod I got a glimpse into what it takes to create and maintain a working band these days, and I am convinced it’s not easy. These guys all work day jobs like the rest of us and when the work day is done they don’t kick back with a cold one and watch the game, instead, they pick up their instruments and work all over again to make their dreams a reality.
As I thought about what I saw and then considered their name I began to wonder if the name didn’t say more than I had once thought, life moves very slow, with long days and long weeks … but for these guys every chance they get they pick up their guitars and for a brief moment while on stage or in the studio or just jamming life does break into Lightspeed!!

Gary Hughes Interview
From the very moment I opened my copy of Ten’s new album “Return From Evermore” and received word that Gary Hughes was interested in an interview I have been very excited for the opportunity to put this interview on line! Gary is one of those artists that while he has been successful in his career he has always been motivated by one simple goal; to bring the world his music and express himself and his dreams. Gary’s accomplishments with Ten and his phenomenal work on “The Once and Future King” are his gift to us. It is my pleasure to present an up close and personal interview with one of today’s greats and one of my personal favorites…

Interview with Iron Horse
Hard Rockin' Southern Country Metal; how many bands do you know who can claim that as their style? I’d say not too many, but I would like to introduce you to a band that not only makes that claim but backs it up with hard rockin, fun tunes and a lot of style! Iron Horse is a band that follows its own rules and its own path; while doing it for the music and for the fans they also do it for charity a great deal of the time. This is a band with a heart of gold and a sound … well, that’s Hard Rockin’ Southern Country – what else can I say?! To learn more about these five guys in leather pants and cowboy hats stop by their website at http://www.ironhorseband.com and check out their new album and “Bring it On!”

Interview with House of Shakira : Per Schelander
The music world is constantly changing. In fact, change may be the most constant factor in rock and roll! Technology has changed, fashions have changed (thank goodness!) and bands have changed. Over the last few years we have seen some new breeds of bands emerging; with rock operas, collaborations and of course the one man band/producer/engineer … ☺
The interview today is with a more traditional band, at least in the fact that there are five members and more often than not they play in the same room, at the same time. House of Shakira is not traditional if you recognize the tradition to play one style and never falter from that path. House of Shakira is open to all music styles and is tearing down the boundaries of an ever-changing world.

Interview with Richie Kotzen
It’s hard to define the color of a chameleon, or describe a changing climate due to the simple fact that they are more than one thing at any given moment. Richie Kotzen is one of the few artists that like the chameleon have the ability to change depending on his environment, the task at hand or an inspiration from deep within. In “Get Up” he shows us his capacity to wear more than one hat and fulfill practically all the roles needed in the recording of an album. Richie’s attitude towards the music is pure; goal oriented and is ripe with the soul of a true artist. His new album Get Up! shows his talent with all the instruments, the power of his voice and his commitment to the music.
I have enjoyed getting to know Richie through this interview and hope that along with the MP3 samples on the Jukebox and the review of the album here and other websites that all of us will “Get Up” and cheer for a great modern album by a vastly talented musician!
